2 people rescued from the wreckage and treated for minor injuries

Two people survived a terrifying crash on the 710 Freeway Thursday afternoon when a semi-truck and its container tipped over onto their pickup truck, nearly crushing it.
Dashcam footage captured the dramatic moment. The incident occurred shortly after 1:50 p.m. on the northbound 710 Freeway, just past Del Amo Boulevard. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup swerved into the big rig’s lane to avoid a front bumper that had fallen onto the roadway. Long Beach Fire Department crews quickly arrived at the scene and discovered the two people trapped inside the pickup, which was pinned beneath the semi-truck.
Firefighters immediately rescued one of the individuals, then brought in a heavy wrecker tow truck to assist in the second rescue. This required the use of the Jaws of Life to cut into the vehicle. Both individuals were safely freed within an hour and a half of the crash.
The driver and passenger were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
